Ryeland Sheep
Most of our Ryeland Ewes manage lambing without assistance. Our lambs are normally born at the end of February / beginning of March. If it's very cold, wet or the lambs are weak, we put red plastic coats on them until they've grown strong enough to cope with the elements. Ryeland sheep are great mums - they take good care of their lambs and are normally very attentive. They are also good milk producers.
We don't normally have to mow the grass in the orchard - the only things our Ryelands don't tend to eat are the nettles. They love windfall apples and have been seen straining to reach apples on the lower branches.
Ryelands are great characters - little Hattie was the third of triplets and was always tiny. She was small enough to squeeze under the field gate and developed a liking for corn - so was often found wandering around the chicken houses, but knew she wasn't meant to be there, and quickly, made a dash back to the field!
We occasionally have Pedigree Ryeland sheep for sale, so If you're interested in keeping Ryelands for breeding or meat production please get in touch.
Spinning Wool
Ryelands are known for their quality wool which is valued by hand spinners. If you're involved with spinning, weaving or textiles and would like Ryeland fleeces please contact us.
Old Manor Ryeland Lamb, Hogget, Mutton
Our Ryeland free range Lambs and older hogget and mutton provide delicious, great tasting meat with cuts that work well grilled, roasted, casseroled and barbecued. We supply our local, free range meat both fresh lamb and frozen lamb - depending on the time of year and availability . Our sheep are taken to a local abattoir for slaughter then they're professionally butchered into specified cuts of meat and vacuum packed. Ryeland lamb is available for collection from the Old Manor but we are not a farm shop and we don't sell lamb from our online shop, so please contact us to check price, availability and collection times. |
